yoga
At Soul Growth, yoga is never solely about the physical practice (asana); here, yoga is believed to be a vehicle of transformation towards our highest selves. Every change is yoga. Whether that be touching your toes, learning to see yourself more clearly, or deeper awareness of the breath, each movement and internal shift is yoga.
NEW TO YOGA
Here are some important things to keep in mind if you want to develop a yoga practice, but aren't sure where to start:
As long as you can breathe, any body can practice yoga. However, not every type of yoga is perfect for every person; it's important to find the right yoga practice, teacher, and class for you.
Honor both the physical and mental health components of yoga- this journey is as much about self-awareness as it is about physical improvement.
Be gentle with yourself as you learn not only how to move in and out of various poses, but also as you begin to look more deeply within.
Ask questions when you are unsure about a particular pose or need a modification. It's important to find a way of moving that will work best for you.
Avoid eating right before coming to a class and be sure to drink plenty of water afterwards.
Class descriptions
VINYASA & Beginner's FLOW
Vinyasa (translates to “flowing with breath”) is a dynamic style of Hatha yoga which joins physical postures, or asanas, with inhales and exhales, creating a steady internal rhythm for the practice. Our Flow classes are designed to cultivate heat in the body with creative sequences involving sun salutations, standing and seated postures, back bending, and a strong focus on the power of breath awareness. All of our yoga classes welcome new and experienced yogi's.
HATHA YOGA
In this class, postures are practiced to align, strengthen and promote flexibility in the body. Breathing techniques and meditation are also integrated. You can expect an emphasis on simplicity, repetition, and ease of movement. Full-body relaxation and balance are the goals as we make a full circuit of the body’s range of motion with standing postures, twists, backbends, forward folds, and hip openers.
RESTORative yoga
This class offers gentle postures and slow movement to settle the body and mind. As the yoga of non-doing, Restorative Yoga uses props to support the body while relaxing into the postures. Meditation and Pranaymana (breath work) techniques are also taught to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and activate our body's natural healing state.
TRADITIONAL YOGA
Traditional Yoga (8-Fold Path Practice) - This class leads you through the 8-Fold Pathway of Patanjali. Each class is a step by step methodology intended to help you take the practice of yoga on the mat to a full, vibrant practice of life off the mat. Each class will include a short study of the Yamas and Niyamas; Asana ,Pranayama (breath control); Pratyahara ( Sense Withdrawal); Dharana (Concentration); Dhyana (Meditation) and Samadhi (a state of Unity). Come ready to sweat, breathe and meditate and get centered.
